For the next two hours, cyclists will traverse the dirt paths through the rice paddies, many of which are elevated above the field for irrigation purposes. During the relatively flat ride, you’ll be immersed in the surrounding countryside culture, cruising past friendly farmers, colorful Mekong-style architecture, and the towering coconut trees that act as an agricultural staple for the area.
After a relaxing stop for a much-needed water refill and cold fruit, we will continue through empty country roads under the shade of mature indigenous trees. Riders tired out by the first portion of the ride may instead opt to ride in the van for this second leg of the journey.
Arriving at a bigger ferry station, which marks our end point for cycling, we leave the bikes behind and head over to a small river island for lunch prepared in our heritage style of cuisine. The food is mostly homegrown and cooked with plenty of dedication.
