Take on the ultimate cycling adventure through the remote highlands of northern Vietnam, where breathtaking landscapes and rich cultural encounters await. This challenging multi-day journey takes you from the bustling streets of Hanoi to the towering limestone peaks, terraced rice fields, and misty valleys of Ha Giang.
Beginning with a bike fitting and welcome dinner in Hanoi, you’ll then transfer north to start your ride through the mountainous terrain of Hoang Su Phi, Ha Giang City, and Yen Minh. Steep climbs and thrilling descents define the experience as you cycle past ethnic minority villages, conquer winding mountain passes, and take in some of Vietnam’s most awe-inspiring panoramas—including the legendary “Heaven’s Gate 1” viewpoint.
From October to May, the Ha Giang Loop offers the ideal conditions for cycling, with pleasant weather and terraced rice paddies at their greenest and most vibrant. During harvest season, riders may even witness local farmers gathering fresh rice along the route, adding an authentic cultural dimension to this unforgettable adventure. Designed for cyclists seeking both physical challenge and cultural immersion, this journey provides a rare glimpse into the traditions, landscapes, and daily life of Vietnam’s far north.
Posted on Tripadvisor Ricky GVerified Mr Biker Saigon absolutely nail e-bike tours of Ha Giang. Unbelievable scenery, diverse accommodation, coordinated and professional crew with total support. Unbelievable passion and commitment from staff which promoted great harmony amongst the tour party. The enthusiasm and energy was contagious.Posted on Tripadvisor PamVerified Interesting, Informative and Diverse E-bike tour We have just completed an Ebike tour from Siagon to Hue with Mr Biker Saigon. It was faultless, the daily rides were very interesting and diverse. The accommodation was excellent and the towns we stayed in had something different to offer each night. Our tour guides An & Gin, together with the mechanic and drivers were amazing, we wanted for nothing and they were so obliging. We felt like we were one big family! At the end of each day, the crew had a cold beer or coconut waiting for us when we arrived in. We have done several other bikes in Vietnam, and we rate this as our best.Posted on Tripadvisor BartonWilliamsVerified Ha Giang Loop Excellence! Words do not express the grandness of this tour! Not only does Mr. Biker Saigon provide amazing equipment, guidance and cultural education, they tailor the ride with just the right amount of effort, humour and local knowledge.Posted on Tripadvisor Russell HVerified Magical ride in the Highlands of Vietnam E-bike cycling Northern Vietnam to and from Hanoi Our guide was An Nguyen. He was exceptionally knowledgeable and committed. Both the accommodation and food were excellent. We received local and cultural information every day with examples and experiences. It was fascinating to learn about Vietnam’s northernmost point and deepest gorge in Southeast Asia. The interaction between different ethnic groups and guides was very professional and we were able to communicate with the local people even with the different ethnic cultures. All the equipment was great and the organisation, guide/medical staff was superb. The value for money was exceptional and supporting local businesses like home stays happened a lot and was important. The thoughtful itinerary was well-chosen, featuring a mix of transport and riding on back roads and tracks away from main roads. This resulted in maximum exposure to small villages. As a result, we avoided motorcycles groups and this made our trip truly unique. Aspira Cruises for our trip to Ha Long Bay was first-class. The ship was clean and the staff was great. Overall this trip is best for experienced riders with good fitness. I would highly recommend so that others can enjoy.Posted on Tripadvisor Sonia JVerified Wonderful experience from start to finish! I chose to book with Mr Biker Saigon as they offered a tour more suited to me and my husband, a tour that simply delivered a cycling experience without the visits to local businesses or gift shops. It was perfect! From the outset communication with the company was first class. On the lead up to the tour I received a really detailed email with what to wear/bring for the homestay/and tour info. It was my birthday and the company went over and above to help and treat me! Our guides arrived promptly gor day 1 and picked us up from our hotel. One drove the support vehicle each day and the other cycled the route with us. They were both excellent! The bikes themselves were fabulous. Very nice and because Mr Biker Saigon had requested our height beforehand, the frames fitted us perfectly. Everything was truly top notch and professional. My husband and I are fairly fit and active and we cycled 50km on day 1. The route was predominantly flat and fairly scenic. Lunch was gorgeous and we had plenty of water stops with fresh fruit and cake! We finished day 1 at around 3pm with a private boat ride to the homestay. We stayed in Ben Tre in the most lovely place! It honestly was more than I imagined. I was invited to help cook with the ladies who own it which was so nice…..it was like an added cooking class! The meal was delicious and everyone so friendly. I even received a birthday cake and gift! It was a very special memory. The room at the homestay was very comfortable with a good bed, AC and a powerful shower. Breakfast was delicious. Day 2 was another 50km and was a very pretty route. Again, we had plenty of water stops and the day ended at a fabulous seafood restaurant right on the water. This trip was a highlight of our holiday in Vietnam. Mr Biker Saigon are a fabulous company and I highly recommend booking with them. You will be in safe hands. Their bikes and support vehicles are top quality and you even get some free gifts - bag/water bottle/tshirt. We did the compact Mekong tour and I saw varied scenery, caught local ferries with the bicycles which was fun and stopped whenever we liked to chat to locals or take photos. We had a great time!! Thankyou Mr Biker Saigon. Thankyou to Ken and Din for looking after us so well.Posted on Tripadvisor robynh255Verified Unforgettable cycling and food tour Saigon to Hue with Mr Biker Mr Biker and our crew of An, Hau and Vu provided us an unforgettable Vietnam experience from the cycling, scenery, accommodation, guiding and food to the exceptional fun and laughs along the way. We got to see the real Vietnam cycling through city laneways, country roads, rice paddy fields, over mountain passes and along coastal routes all supported by exceptional guides and crew. Our tour was like a cycling and food tour rolled into one… every day was different scenery and new and amazing foods to try with excellent local knowledge. We will be back and highly recommend this tour to others. Thank youPosted on Tripadvisor Tim GVerified Northern Vietnam Cycling: Mai Chau To Pu Luong - Family Trip We had a fantastic experience on this guided cycling tour and couldn’t recommend it highly enough. The team were really friendly and incredibly well organised, which made the whole trip feel relaxed and well looked after from start to finish. The riding took us through beautiful, scenic landscapes in the hills west and south‑west of Hanoi – a stunning part of the country to see by bike. The itinerary was a 4‑day, 5‑night trip, with around 3.5 days of riding. On the full days we rode about 55 km, although the distances were sensibly shortened due to the heat and humidity during our week. The support was excellent, especially for our family group. The accommodating team were great with our younger riders, happily helping them up the longer climbs and keeping spirits high. There were plenty of snacks along the way, amazing food, and great accommodation throughout the trip (with pools). A special mention must go to the best ice‑cold, refreshing lime juice we’ve ever had – absolute heaven during the hot ride! The duration was perfect for us. We’re regular riders, but usually on flatter and cooler terrain back home, and this felt challenging (mainly due to the heat). For more casual riders, maybe an e-bike is a good option to deal with the climbs. A brilliant balance of cycling, scenery, culture, and comfort – we’d do it again in a heartbeat.Posted on Tripadvisor Noeline BVerified Fabulous way to explore the sights, scenery, culture and people of the Mekong Delta supported by a great tour guide team Mekong Delta Bike ExperiencePosted on Tripadvisor GlennVerified Fabulous Mekong Cycling Experience Wonderful guide Thuan took us through rice fields, coconut farms, back roads and paths criss-crossing scenic country side on excellent Giant e-bikes. Highly recommend!Posted on Tripadvisor Fiona RVerified Mekong Delta cycling Fantastic experience. Our guide, Thuan, and driver were fabulous. The e-bikes were great excellent quality. Would never have found the paths, turns, ferry crossings on our own. Thuan gave us insight into how Vietnamese grow and harvest many crops. The scenery-coconut trees, rice fields, pagodas, markets and meeting (and waving) to locals was fabulous. Our driver was there with water, fruit and snacks along our routes. Highly recommend!!!Load more

After you arrive at the hotel in Hanoi’s Old Quarter, you’ll be treated to a bike fitting where expert mechanics will make sure your mountain bike (or e-MTB) is perfectly suited to your preferences and body dimensions.
After all riders have arrived and received a fitting, we’ll kick off the tour with a welcome dinner of traditional Northern Vietnamese cuisine. The dinner will be a good chance for you to get to know both your fellow cyclists and the members of the Mr Biker Saigon team.
Cycling Distance: 22km
Elevation Gain: 800m
Meals Provided: breakfast, lunch and dinner
Accommodation: Hill Home Hoang Su Phi or similar
7:30 AM – Hotel pickup for a 5-hour van transfer heading north toward Viet Quang town.
This long drive gives you plenty of time to take in the changing landscape – or catch up on some sleep. Along the way, we’ll stop for a local-style breakfast.
After the transfer, enjoy a strong Vietnamese coffee while changing into your cycling gear. Then get ready for an unforgettable journey.
The first 15 km will be a gentle warm-up with rolling hills. We’ll stop for lunch at a small local restaurant run by a young ethnic couple. This will be your first real taste of rural Vietnamese cuisine, so don’t be shy to try something new!
After lunch, the Ha Giang Gauntlet truly begins. The final 7 km is a challenging climb up to Hoang Su Phi Hill Home, surrounded by breathtaking scenery – so keep your eyes (and camera) wide open.
Dinner and overnight at a local homestay in Hoang Su Phi.
Cycling Distance: 60km
Elevation Gain: 1500m
Meals Provided: Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner
Accommodation: Four Points Ha Giang by Sheraton
We’ll set off from the mountain city of Hoang Su Phi bright and early to head towards the outskirts of Ha Giang. The ride is 8km long, but you’ll descend 400m of off road dirt paths that actually lead through hillside villages. Watching the beautiful terraced mountainsides that follow the contours of the landscape is one of this adventure’s scenic highlights.
Near Ha Giang, we’ll explore the diverse cultural heritage of the 15 different ethnic tribes in the area You’ll have the opportunity to learn about the rich history and heritage of the tribes from the locals themselves.
Next, we’ll cycle up the steep final stretch to enjoy the view of Ha Giang city, a challenging but rewarding experience, before overnighting at a boutique hotel in Ha Giang. Treat yourself with some luxury.
Cycling Distance: 60km
Elevation Gain: 1500m
Meals Provided: Breakfast, lunch, dinner
Accommodation: Phuong Dong Hotel
You’ll wake to a 25 km bus transfer along the paved road through local terraced rice paddies. The morning scenery is breathtakingly beautiful, but the road is flat and relatively straight, and that kind of casual cycling is reserved for our not-so-super-advanced tours!
At the end of the bus ride, you’ll hop on your bike and cycle through Vietnam’s limestone mountain range, taking in the views of the incredible geological formations and the misty rice terraces in the area as you pump up steep climbs and fly down hills at high speeds. Emerging from the mountain range, the terrain will even out a bit as you pass through minority villages and mountain communities while immersing yourself in the local culture and interacting with the friendly people of the area.
The mountain road pass “Heaven’s Gate 1” will be a highlight of the day, with the famous vista of the Tam Son valley and the Twin Hills offering one of the most spectacular sites in Vietnam. The mix of challenging up and down terrain and relatively flat sections will test your cycling skills, but the scenic views and friendly encounters with local hill tribes will make it all worth it.
Finally, you’ll descend into Yen Minh while observing the traditional homes of the local communities and taking in the picturesque surroundings before an overnight at a homestay in this sleepy northern town.
Cycling Distance: 60km
Elevation Gain: 1700m
Meals Provided: Breakfast, lunch, dinner
Accommodation: Dongvan Ville Du H’Mong Hotel or similar
In the morning, we’ll take a leisurely ride several kms to visit the nearby hill tribe market. It’s a great way to immerse yourself in the local culture and get a glimpse of the vibrant lifestyle characteristic of the heavily Chinese-influenced far North of Vietnam. You may even come across some Northern Vietnamese antiquities to pick up as souvenirs!
Next, we’ll cycle up the “Way of Happiness Road” while viewing Dong Van’s Karst Plateau, truly one of the most beautiful natural landmarks in the world (take a look at the photos if you don’t believe us). At the road’s summit, riders will visit the Hmong King Palace (Vuong Chi Sinh Palace) and Lung Cu Flag Pole Tower.
Finally, we’ll cycle 15 km to Dong Van ancient town and check into a hotel there before enjoying some self-guided exploration of one of Vietnam’s most historically rich hidden gems.
Cycling Distance: 30km
Elevation Gain: 700m
Meals Provided: Breakfast, lunch, dinner
Accommodation: Auberge de Meo Vac
We’ll set off from Dong Van through Sky Walk, a road that is cyclist-friendly but has been known to get so misty that you might feel like you’re walking on clouds, hence the name. The ride will also take you alongside the magnificent Ma Phi Leng Pass.
After the sky walk, riders will fly down a steep downhill stretch to the Nho Que River and embark on the Nho Que River cruise. The 700-meter-deep canyon walls are sure to take your breath away.
After disembarking, we’ll board a waiting support van in Nho Que and backtrack to the colorful village of Meo Vac, where we will stay overnight.
Cycling Distance: 54km
Elevation Gain: 800m
Meals Provided: Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner
Accommodation: Chien’s Lodge or similar
In the morning, we’ll set off on a ride from Meo Vac to the majestic Mau Due – Lung Ho summit, which will offer one of the most panoramic views in Vietnam. The ride is one of the most strenuous legs of this adventure, so be sure to stay hydrated. Reaching the summit is no easy task even for expert cyclists, but you’ll be rewarded at the top of the mountain with a hearty picnic lunch.
The descent down the mountain is one of the highest-velocity segments of any Mr Biker tour, and it ends with a plunge into the tranquil riverside village of Du Gia. Overnight at a comfortable riverview hotel in town.
Cycling Distance: 38 km
Elevation Gain: 800m
Meals Provided: Breakfast, lunch , dinner
Start the day with a visit to the local market in Du Gia, where you can mingle with colorfully-clothed
members of the different hill tribes and admire their traditional crafts.
From Du Gia, we’ll embark on one of the most ruggedly picturesque legs of this adventure: cycling uphill 5 km through remote mountainous areas surrounded by beautiful cliffs, caves, and other natural wonders. It’s the intense climax of the Ha Giang Gauntlet.
After the 5 km climb, we’ll begin a descent that lasts 20 km. It will be a glorious opportunity to rest your cycling muscles, which will probably be pretty spent by this point. You’ll then finish the cycling portion of the tour with 10 km of flat riding to the town of Ha Giang, where you’ll share a lunch. You’ll say goodbye to your fellow riders and your trusty bike unless you plan to extend your stay in Ha Giang.
Finally, transfer back to Hanoi and arrive there at 10:00 pm. We’ll grab a local dinner enroute.
FAQs
This tour is designed for intermediate cyclists riding with e-bike add-on and experienced riders looking for a rewarding challenge on acoustic bikes.
Ha Giang’s mountainous terrain features long climbs, dramatic elevation changes, and demanding riding days. The suggested e-bike makes this extraordinary region accessible to active riders who want to experience the landscapes without being overwhelmed by the physical demands.
For stronger riders seeking a more challenging experience, our mtb/gravel bike option offers a true highland adventure.
While the Ha Giang Loop has become famous for motorbike “easy rider” tours, our cycling approach offers a very different experience.
Rather than following the crowded main loop, we take slower, quieter, and less-traveled roads that allow riders to connect more deeply with the landscapes and local communities.
By avoiding the busiest tourist sections whenever possible, we create a more authentic experience where guests can appreciate the real rhythm of highland life, far from the rush of motorbike groups.
The best time to experience Ha Giang by bike is generally from November through May, with November and December offering some of the most beautiful riding conditions, including clearer skies, dry roads, and spectacular mountain scenery.
April and May are also excellent months, though temperatures can become noticeably warmer during the day.
Riders should be aware that January through March can be surprisingly cold. Unlike many other regions of Vietnam, Ha Giang sits in the country’s far north at high elevation, where temperatures can occasionally drop below 5°C (41°F), often with wet, windy, and misty conditions.
Because mountain weather can change quickly, we strongly recommend bringing enough layers for both on and off the bike to stay comfortable throughout the journey.
Ha Giang is widely considered the pinnacle of cycling in Vietnam.
The region offers dramatic limestone mountains, deep valleys, winding highland roads, and some of the country’s most spectacular scenery.
Beyond the landscapes, the journey passes through remote villages home to Vietnam’s diverse ethnic minority communities, offering rare opportunities to experience traditional cultures, local markets, and everyday life in one of the country’s most unique regions.
Yes. We recommend bringing a couple of sets of cycling clothing, along with enough extra layers to stay comfortable in Ha Giang’s highly variable mountain weather.
Because conditions can shift quickly between sunshine, wind, rain, and cold temperatures, it’s important to pack:
- Warm riding layers
- A windproof or waterproof outer layer
- Sun protection such as arm sleeves, sunscreen, and sunglasses
We provide a helmet for all riders, but you are welcome to bring your own for optimal comfort and fit.
If you plan to bring your own cycling shoes, please make sure to also bring your preferred pedals, so we can set up your bike to match your riding style.
